The Toyota Sequoia is a full-size SUV produced by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana in Princeton, Indiana. It is derived from the Toyota Tundra pickup truck but differs in its use of an independent rear suspension. It is priced between the mid-size 4Runner and Toyota's flagship Land Cruiser SUV.
The Sequoia is the largest SUV currently sold under the Toyota name. Both the Sequoia and Land Cruiser seat eight passengers, however the Sequoia is being slightly larger than the Land Cruiser, giving it markedly larger leg room for the third row, and more cargo capacity behind its third row. Another difference is that the Sequoia is available in 2WD and its 4WD system is not the permanent 4WD system found in the Land Cruiser. Lastly the Land Cruiser is more luxurious and more upmarket, being the basis for the Lexus LX. As of 2010, the Sequoia is sold exclusively in the United States, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Middle East.

First generation (2001–2007)

The Sequoia was originally shown in car shows in 1999 and 2000, with full production starting in late 2000 as a 2001 model. Engine, driveline, and some sheetmetal components are shared with the Tundra, and shares the same basic chassis, with the exception of rear disc brakes and a more sophisticated multi-link live axle rear suspension. The Sequoia was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award for 2001. The Sequoia is slightly longer than the Land Cruiser, however, it is barely noticeable. At introduction it was larger than the Chevrolet Tahoe in most dimensions and similar in size to the Ford Expedition; its V8 engine was certified as Ultra Low Emission Vehicle. Frame assemblies and driveshafts are produced by Dana Corporation.
The Sequoia comes in two trim levels; SR5 and Limited. The SR5 starts at $32,820 while the more expensive Limited starts at $41,855. It is sold in both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. Vehicle Stability Control was standard on models.
It received a mid-cycle update and minor cosmetic updates for 2005 and gained a more powerful engine equipped with VVT-i, as well as a 5-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous 4-speed, LED-backlit gauges and an in-glass antenna replaces the previous power mast.
Toyota unveiled the 2008 Toyota Sequoia at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show, with sales beginning that following December. Like the previous Sequoia, the new model is based on the new Tundra. However major differences with the Tundra include a fully-boxed frame, a rear independent suspension featuring double wishbones with coil springs for improved ride comfort and room, and a locking center differential on 4-wheel drive models. The new suspension helps give the Sequoia a tighter turning radius of 19 feet (5.8 m) and allows for a fold-flat rear seat. Toyota stated the new frame is 70 percent more resistant to bending flex with torsional rigidity up 30 percent However, the new model weighs more than 500 lb (230 kg) more than the previous Sequoia. The drag coefficient has been reduced to 0.35.
Improvements include an optional ULEV-II compliant 381 horsepower 5.7-liter 3UR-FE V8, mated to a 6-speed automatic.
The 2008 Sequoia comes in three trim lines: the SR5 and Limited, and new Platinum. Pricing ranges from about $34,000 to $55,000 depending upon the trim line and configuration. The base engine is the previous ULEV complant 4.7-liter 2UZ-FE 276 horsepower (206 kW) V8 featured from the previous generation. The 4.7-liter is standard on the SR5, while the Limited and Platinum models come standard with a 5.7-liter V8 engine. Four-wheel drive is available on all models.
The interior of the 2008 Sequoia features the same dash as the new Tundra. Standard features include a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, power windows and doors, dual sun visors, and a keyless entry. Options include DVD based navigation with backup camera and 7" screen, a rear DVD entertainment system, a 14-speaker JBL audio system, and heated seats with ventilated coolers in the front row and warmers in the second row, available in Platinum trim. The Limited trim includes audio, climate, and hands-free Bluetooth mobile phone system controls, an improved JBL audio system, electroluminescent Optitron gauges, and an electrochromic auto-dimming rear-view mirror and side view mirrors with a HomeLink transceiver. The Platinum model includes a standard DVD navigation with a backup camera, a rear air suspension which can lower for easy loading, and Dynamic Laser Cruise Control.
Seating arrangements are for seven or eight passengers, eight for SR5 and Limited models and seven for Platinum models. Power folding 60/40 split third row seats are available on the Platinum. The Sequoia has a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg) with the 5.7-liter V8 in 2WD SR5 form or 9,600 lbs in the 4WD SR5 trim. Other versions tow considerably less, such as the 5.7-liter 4WD Platinum, which can tow 8,800 lbs (3,991 kg). The lowest towing capacity for the Sequioa is the 4.6-liter 4WD SR5, which tows 7,000 lbs (3,175 kg) For complete trailer & weight capacities, see Toyota’s website.
Exterior differences include door handle colors (color-keyed for the SR5; chrome for the Limited and Platinum), diamond-cut 20" aluminum alloy wheels for the Platinum trim, and varying power-heated remote-controlled side mirrors.
Standard safety features include Vehicle Stability Control, traction control, anti-lock brakes brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution, front side torso airbags and roll-sensing side curtain airbags for all three rows. For the 2010 model knee airbags were added as standard feature for front driver and passenger safety.

Bahrain GP 2011

After a month of global unrest and what seems like mass uprising the country of Bahrain has been thrown into turmoil. The formula one world has been sat watching events in the middle east with trepidation. It is still not clear if the formula one race will go ahead because of the problems this country is currently facing.

It has emerged that the final decision will probably not be taken by the formula one organizers but the Crown Prince of Bahrain. This news comes right from the heart of formula one Bernie Ecclestone. The civil unrest in Bahrain has left the season opener for the 2011 formula one championship in serious doubt.
The unrest to date has left many people injured and six people dead, the protests throughout the country has seen local police fire live rounds into demonstrations. Earlier statements from Ecclestone seemed quite naive as he hoped that the problems would just blow away. When this happened the race would be run as expected.
Watching other events across the globe and what has happened since local and national protests it is hard to believe these protests will just blow away. With the removal of Egypts long standing ruler and the current state in Libya it is easier to believe that the current events will run their course.
Ecclestone spoke to the BBC on Sunday and claimed that the Crown Prince was the best person to make the call on the race. The Prince who has been left this decision is the heir to the throne and also the supreme commander of the defence force. Ecclestone also stated that as the formula one team is not in the country they won't be issuing any advice on safety.

Jaguar Xj 2011--New Car Review

New Jaguar XJs are designed for the next generation and is an esteemed model. The XJ is the brand mark’s “volume” nameplate, which means that if it fails which is most likely not to happen due to Jaguar’s position in opposition to better luxury-brand challengers.
Hoban director of Jaguar programs stated that “So after much ruminating, the Jag execs the team led by Ian Hoban, determined to add more Jaguar to the new Jaguar. By this we mean they elected to add a greater performance feel to the big sedan. As described it, we wanted to make the vehicle character more overtly sporting, building on the work we’d done with XK and XF.”
Jaguar engineers, designers and product planners have decided to build the sporting feel piece by piece by piece. For instance, in came the straighter and quicker steering ratio from the XFR. In came incessantly variable dampening with air suspension.
In came augmented track, amplified spring rates and enlarged tire diameter. The aluminium body framework was made 10% firmer by altering the usage of high-strength 6000-grade aluminium metal and the usage of aluminium die moulding in significant regions like the front shock towers,

Hyundai Veloster Rally Car

At the Chicago Auto Show, Hyundai Motor America has announced that its new Veloster coupe will be competing in the Northern Hemisphere Summer X Games during the 2011 U.S. Rallycross Championship Series.

With the next generation of Hyundai buyers eagerly awaiting the upcoming launch of the Veloster, Hyundai has fuelled the excitement by teaming with Rhys Millen Racing (RMR) and Red Bull to campaign the car in the high-energy sport of rallycross.

Hyundai Motor America adds the Veloster coupe to its motorsports program with the help of champion race car driver Rhys Millen, who fabricated and will race the first 500-horsepower AWD Veloster rally car in the 2011 U.S. Rallycross Championship.

RMR and Hyundai are constructing a second Veloster rally car which will be a shared ride between rally champion Marcus Dodd and world record freestyle motorbike rider Robbie Maddison. Millen and Maddison will drive the Veloster rally cars at the Northern Hemisphere Summer X Games. A third Veloster rally car will be constructed to compete in the 2WD-class in a limited number of U.S. Rallycross Championship events and will be piloted by soon to-be-announced celebrity drivers.

"We feel the Veloster is a perfect fit for X Games and the U.S. Rallycross Championship series as we expand our motorsports efforts," said Mike O'Brien, vice president, Product and Corporate Planning, Hyundai Motor America. "The all-new 2012 Veloster is a playful, fun-to-drive car and thanks to Rhys and his team we're excited to introduce it to racing fans ahead of its planned launch in this summer. I teamed up with Rhys' father, Rod, nearly twenty years ago for Hyundai's original Pikes Peak rally program, so it is great to be back in the sport again with his son inspiring a new generation."

"We've transformed the Veloster's lightweight, rigid architecture into a rally car with an engine producing 500-horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, said Millen, professional race driver and founder of RMR. "We hope some of the performance learnings from the Veloster rallycross program will have a role in the development of future Veloster models."

Twelve RMR employees applied everything they know about fabricating race cars into the Veloster rally car. The original production Veloster was stripped back to bare metal, and the chassis spent five days in an alkali-bath removing all rubber and adhesives. The chassis was also stitch welded for added structural rigidity.

Millen quickly decided to take the already lightweight Veloster, and make it even lighter. His crew took molds of the Veloster body panels to replicate them out of carbon/Kevlar. The bonnet, doors, quarter panels, and front and rear fascias are all built out of carbon/Kevlar. The carbon/Kevlar panels are 75 percent lighter than the sheet metal they replaced. This weight-saving approach is carried throughout the car without compromising its powerful curves, and surface detail or the hidden third door.

Downforce has been further increased by a custom RMR rear wing. The bonnet has been vented to dissipate heat. The curb weight for the car is now 1204.7kgs.

Hyundai Veloster Rally Car Interio
The interior of the RMR Red Bull Hyundai Veloster rally car is unrecognisable from its origins as a well-appointed sporty coupe designed with everyday driving in mind. All comfort and convenience features are removed to make way for a custom-fabricated eight-point safety cage and firewall, which reinforce the Veloster's already stiff chassis. Braces on both the A and B pillars also tie into the strength of the body. The safety cage is a rally safety requirement, and a Sparco racing seat further protects the driver in the overhauled cockpit.

The RMR Red Bull Hyundai Veloster rally car utilises a custom suspension with increased travel to allow for the harsh jumps rallycross cars have to make.

The Hyundai 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine is further enhanced by a HKS ball bearing turbocharger. The engine is mated to an X-Trac six-speed sequential transmission. The end result is a Veloster producing 500-horsepower (373kW) and 600 lb.-ft. of torque (813Nm) of torque.

To ensure the enhanced power plant translates all the way to on-track performance, RMR added custom built 18-inch HRE wheels and 245/40R18 Hankook Racing tyres. Stopping power comes from 14-inch Alcon brake rotors and six-piston Alcon callipers. The entire carbon/Kevlar body is wrapped in a striking paint scheme combination of blue, white and orange.

A rallycross race consists of five rally-style cars, who will start at once, jumping and sliding on a pavement and gravel road course. The challenging short course features jumps, unbanked turns, dirt and bitumen. Each car must also complete a "Joker" lap at some point during their heat. A Joker lap is a small detour - normally over a jump -adding a level of unpredictability to the heat's outcome, by changing a driver's strategy in an instant.

Rhys Millen will be taking on David Higgins and Dave Mirra in Subaru WRX STIs, Ken Block and Tanner Foust in Ford Fiestas and Antoine L'Estage in his Mitsubishi EVO X, to name a few.
